Digital Abuse – What is it? & How do you prevent it?

Saftey Online
Online Safety series I read a great article on the Facebook Blog today that I know will be useful to share. It begins with: Casi Lumbra, 17, is an advisory board member for MTV's A Thin Line campaign, which launched today to help teens stop the spread of digital abuse. She's also a member of WiredSafety.org's Teenangels, a group of teens trained in all aspects of online safety, privacy and security. While people on Facebook may never encounter digital abuse, they still need to be able to spot it and stop it. Job Hunting with or without a Personal Brand

Social Media
The Class of 2009 has spent the months after graduation looking for a job. 40,000 of this year’s graduates are hunting (via http://www.guardian.co.uk/). What happens next? Are you fully prepared? Finally, the day has arrived. You’ve landed an interview with a wonderful company doing what you love to do. First you put on your best business attire and get into the car. You’re the definition of a professional. The car ride to the interview is important, so you listen to music that pumps you up or some that calms you down. As you pull up to the building your excitement increases. You walk into the lobby and address the receptionist. I have an interview with “person who can change my life” or more commonly known as Ms. Boss. The interview…

The article also stresses that social media is free Advertising. Yes it is free, but…..   To all my friends understand social media is a conversation, even if you’re using the company logo as your profile/username. In the beginning, you will find support only from your current supporters, but if you are attempting to grow and find new audiences the only steps that matter are the conversation…

Blue pill, or Red Pill of Social Media

Internet, Personal Branding, Social Media, Web 2.0
"You take the blue pill, the story ends; you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. The majority of people are just batteries for the social media environment just feeding it so it can exist. The question of which pill, red or blue, is asking us if we should head into the social media direction, where the truth will change our business and our lives and ultimately decide this direction is worth pursuing or choose ignorance and bliss. The blue pill will leave us as we are, in a life consisting of habit, transactional requirements, and a business environment we believe we know. In this state…

We believe such pain when we have to give up time to use this media. The goal is to change how we link up this Web 2.0 world. Let us change the meaning of Social Media. For many people social media means “I have to give up something,” in which they could be focusing elsewhere. People may also be involved in social media because someone else wants them to be (usually bosses).  So I ask -What is your commitment to social media? Where are you in your level of change?
